Will windows 8 be 128 bit

I've never even heard of a bit CPU. I've never heard of Windows 8. And any modern notebook will run vista or windows 7. Your CPU will be most likely be 64 and 32 compatible if the computer was made in the last 3 years Windows is either 64 or 32 bit, but if you have the 64 bit, like I do, then 32 bit apps will still work just fine.. The biggest reason to get a 64 bit version of windows in my opinion is to allow for more than 4GB of memory on your system.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Windows 8? Microsoft has released little to no information about Windows 8. What is known derives from descriptions in Microsoft's job listings, with the Microsoft Kitchen Web site leading the charge in tracking them down. The latest rumor purportedly comes from a posting on LinkedIn, a social networking Web site.

Supposedly, a Microsoft employee named Robert Morgan spilled the beans about Windows 8 in a LinkedIn entry that has since been removed. Possibly, IA refers to a bit Intel Itanium architecture -- something not described by Intel's literature. Other observers flatly say that IA just doesn't exist. On Tuesday, the Windows 8 News site claimed it will obtain an "exclusive interview with Robert Morgan.

All of this is pure speculation so far, although it is true that Microsoft is working on Windows 8. For its part, Microsoft remained mum on whether it is working on a bit version of Windows 8. Microsoft plans to release Windows 7 to the public on Oct. Windows 7 will support both bit and bit hardware. Microsoft also would not confirm whether someone named Robert Morgan is working on the Windows 8 project, although there apparently is a Microsoft partner who goes by that name. He provides help as an expert at a Microsoft Dynamics Web page.

If Microsoft follows its general three-year release pattern for operating systems a pattern that has been broken in the past , Windows 8 might be expected to appear in late However, no such release schedule for Windows 8 has yet been publicized. Back when the switch was made from bit to bit, the reasoning behind this decision was rather straightforward. With application memory requirements surpassing what bit address space could give them, it made a lot of sense to switch to a bit architecture.

The extra memory space offered by this new version of applications was on par with the physical memory chips found in most mainstream computers at that time. Even though there are plenty of applications — and even operating systems — which exist in both bit and bit versions, the performance boost from that particular translation is far less apparent. The vast majority of applications available today have no need for bit memory space.

These apps will not take advantage of the available memory once it hits the 4GB mark. That being said, certain types of applications can benefit from the switch to bit support.
