I know it wasnt the i version. Once you got past the initial install, it said it was installing the other version.
I had actually installed it once, and couldnt use the deb installer, which is how I came to first realise, then I uninstalled it, then redownloaded the installer, then tried again, and that was when I saw what it was downloading. I could not get the i installer, even though the machine I was using is a 32bit machine it was downloading the 64bit version.
I think there might be something wrong with the wubi. I eventually found out that you can install it via the disk. I didnt realise first of all that it would show if you didnt restart the laptop, just insert the disc and let it run. Once I found that it worked, and now I have the right version, and its working. Its also updated really well too, plus I have the right software sources updated and installed.
I am having a few problems with flash stuff, and I know the flash player is installed, but its very slow. Which is strange as its quite a fast machine. I was very impressed with the way it works on a vista machine though, which is a surprise. I know its not the best way to have Ubuntu installed, but for a beginner who is not good with partitioning, its a very good way to get used to Ubuntu.
Sorry if that sounds a bit waffly. I hope you can understand what I'm saying. Sean Miller. Post by Sean Miller Really, John, what is the issue with just letting Ubuntu install itself in the normal way? I find Wubi really annoying [if people haven't noticed already]. Don't see the need for it, apart from people who want to install it as an application on their Windows desktop.
Michael Holloway. Matthew Daubney. I lost it in all the e-mail things I have. I have 3 Ubuntu and 2 windows. Gets confusing now and again. No its not the same pc. Its a friends. It seems that Wubi only wants to install the amd version, I have tried to install it again on another pc and that is the version it installed again, even though it is on a a 32 bit machine, so thats 2 separate machines that tried to install the wrong version, kind of odd.
Sorry again, John. Post by Sean Miller Another option, of course, is to run a "proper non-Wubifried" version of Ubuntu in a virtual machine - just let it use the whole virtual disk. Then you can have Windows and Linux running together at the same time, which can be useful. Post by Sean Miller I'm using Virtualbox, btw, to test things on Windows 7 - and very nice it is too.
I think Microsoft may have finally got things right again, after all the bad publicity Vista attracted. Post by John I managed to install the virtualbox on my laptop. I have got it to work, and its updated ok. The only thing is at the moment, the size of the window is really small, only about the size of a netbook. I have tried everything to get it bigger, and nothing is working.
Is there a way to increase the size? Even if you go full screen, it only shows the small window. James Milligan. Plus, what I have on the wubi install, is there any way I can transfer it ver to the VirtualBox, so that I dont loose anything? Or have to install all the repositories again. Post by James Milligan You need to install the VirtualBox additions - it's in one of the menus at the top of the screen whilst you're running the VM.
It mounts a disk inside the VM which will install all o the necessary drivers. Good luck! Post by John Plus with the other question I asked, does anybody know how I can transfer all the things from the wubi install to the VM install?
Post by James Milligan Go to my computer or computer, should I say and right click the disk drive. Then select autoplay, and if you get two options select the installer one rather than the folder view. James Ok, well I tried what you said and it doesnt give me an option for autoplay, lots of other options, but not that one. Have been looking round inside it and its got both 32bit and 64bit installers in there.
